Paintings Collection by Azen Tsang
July 21 2026
Paintings Collection by Azen Tsang. I met Azen Tsang in Soho, NY. Every weekend he used to sell his paintings in the street among many other artists. His art stood out for the beauty and warmth, painted by a man with a big heart, beautiful mind, and a kind spirit. His paintings absorbed the energy of the artist’s vision and his wisdom. His art talks with the heart of anyone who gazes at Azen’s paintings. I purchased four of his works from him after having long conversations about life, art and more. If you stare at the detailed strokes of his delicate portraits or still life, you will see the majestic universe spilled over on canvas capturing a moment of beautiful dance of colors flirting around. The paintings awaken feelings of light, peace and comfort. These paintings made me ponder over the purpose of life. What is it? What must we do to make an impact, to make our existence count?….These paintings are the gateway to the wisdom of the universe. I got my answer: I moved away from the cradle to grave of busy work that benefits no one, purchased 80 acres of undeveloped land, and now I’m working on becoming whole with it. The success of the outcome is certain, the timeline is rather a stretch. If there was only another helping hand making the dream come true… Maybe it is you, who may want to contribute and help make an impact, change a life, buy this listing and , too, look into the eyes of the universe through the lens of these magical paintings to find peace and meaning in your life. Update 6.1.22 So many adventures and discoveries happen only in Conan Doyle books and on National Geographic. We’ve been here for several months now, and seriously working our butts off just to get to the property we plan to live on. I’ll tell you I’ve never hurt so much from such strenuous physical labor, and I love it. The clay road leading to the magical forest I call home winds like a snake through pine hugging the road so tightly you can’t even see what’s hiding behind. When it rains the soil gets so soft like a warm stick of butter. To make things even more interesting, a natural spring beats into it after heavy rains. I can’t tell you how much digging and rock harvesting we’ve done to date to get the road ready for the delivery of the yurt. Imagine living in a yurt in the middle of the forest full of tree frogs, birds and other things that make sounds so loud you feel like you are in a busy bazaar somewhere. I don’t speak their language, but I think they like to gossip, because when we come, they stop their chatter for a moment then burst into laughter and get on to polish their jaws talking about the city folk who dare to come to their world. Yes, we dared and we plan to stay. Next steps:-Getting guinea birds and chickens to clear the land off ticks- there are so many of these blood sucking monsters, you can’t even stand still, they crawl up your boots like a snow fall (only upside down and brown- made myself laugh at the analogy). Once the birds feast on the brown snowflakes, it will be time to set up the yurt and start living there full time. -Build a banya (it’s a Russian bath house) by hand with an axe. Looking forward to finding new muscle groups in my body doing that and learning our path into the kingdom of the gossiping frogs, birds and other buzzing forest folk. Update 9.7.2022The yurt is here! We are putting it up on Saturday, because we had a nice dry week and we need this weather to hold to assemble the walls. This little structure, which is wholly made by hand without a singe nail, looks amazing. The larch lettuce walls are put together with raw hide, the pine support poles and tension beams are bright orange with painted traditional Mongolian swirls. To put this up we made a rock base with vent ports to aerate the yurt. The soil here is mostly clay. As such I’m exploring the idea of building a brick oven with home made clay bricks. I am determined to turning this place into a whimsical place, a magical village full of lost and found craft. One step at a time. Something happened to ticks- they disappeared. I guess they are going dormant for the winter as the nights are getting colder day by day. Our guinea birds will have to scavenger hunt to find other insects, which there are plenty. By the way the guinea chicks are on stand by in the brooder ready to be released into the wild in the next couple of weeks. We got eight guinea fowl chicks and eight chicks. Those little things are so needy and require so much attention. They are 5 weeks old and in this time I barely slept at night because I had to tend to them- food, warm water every few hours. I think I’m overdoing it, but then they say that baby chicks can get sick and die in an instant, and I don’t want to lose any of my little birdies. All but one chicks under our care survived- great success! And, we intend to keep them alive by building a sturdy coop around a big ol oak. We already put up a round base for it. My hope to have it resemble a gnome house or a bolete with a bright hat of a roof and painted white body. Funny story and adventure: I found an old water well down the hill by the creek. The water is clear and moving. It’s a spring water well. Although there are salamander and toads linger around it. The toads are literally the size of a man’s work boot! At first I shunned the water as I was concerned about the bacteria from the cold blooded creatures calling this water hole their home. But then one day I was clearing the path to the well with a scythe and got so parched I didn’t care about the salmonella or E.Coli…. and I drank it… A smart thing to do?! Ah, to hell with it, I smelled the water and it had no scent or odor, so I figured I’d take a long shot and took a good wholesome sip of the living water. And it was sooo refreshing and tasty and cold in 110 weather. I splashed my face , neck and torso, and went back to work…… What I wanted to do is climb right into the well fully clothed, but then I figured it would be disrespectful to the well. Plus, who knows if Naiads live there and lure folks with sparkling, liquid joy. So, I let that idea go. No ill effects from drinking the water; I neither got sick nor turned into a toad by rascal forest Naiads. What a great discovery of this living treasure readily available even in the height of the summer drought. Next steps:-I already started bringing in and planting several fruit and nut trees to grow an edible forest. Just imagine spending your summer and Fall foraging for tasty treats- Chestnuts, hazelnuts, walnuts, cherries, apples, pears, all kinds of ground berries, mushrooms and herbs. So, this is a long term plan of bringing in and planting the myriad of perennial vegetation big and small.-Work on a walk-in cellar and a winter green house in the hills slopes. We have done so much digging here by hand, it is almost a second nature now; what are we digging today?- a road trench, holes for posts. Digging another 100sf deep cavity into a hill seems like a piece of cake sans mentioning aches and pains in all kinds of places. Yeah, everything hurts. Some parts hurt more than others. But it’s ok, as I know that our golden days will be brighter among mature fruiting bounty.-The road! Oh, the road the Achilles hill of the land. It is such a capricious princess made of clay. A drop of rain melts her turning her snaking body into mushy pudding. We gave her a face lift and got rid of many of the wrinkles caused by rain. We’ll see what the wet Autumn season will bring out of her- I’m sure she’s planning a revenge already. For now, I am ready for the yurt. It is our first whimsical addition to this place. I am the second!Until next time….Update 10/31/22 Over the past several months I recorded a few drone videos to capture the progress: here are the links: https://youtu.be/JeF0vqbi5KU (an areal view of the hill we plan to live on, the yurt, the chicken run and the chicken coup WIP). https://youtu.be/mLm5nQqMqRM (what some parts of the road looked like before)https://youtu.be/KkBo7P4_Ugc (what it looks like today)https://youtu.be/KLW-eCbHc7g (more views of it looks today). We’ve been recording the progress with the drone here and there, and eventually hope to put them together into a video time lapse. After putting so much time and effort it feels nice to look back and reflect on the path we took… a long and difficult path. The other day we talked about our adventure and realized that just like any quest of any heroic novel, the road to the destination is full of obstacles and misfortunes. In the end every story has a happy resolution. So will be the story of our journey. The life has its own funny way to show humor though. It sends way too many obstacles or maybe they are just the prep work for big victories. It seems like everything we have done in our lives to date was just a preparatory work to our great project we oversee now. I hope that end is closer than it appears. Not the end of the journey, but the end of this back breaking labor. My right elbow is effectively useless, my husband’s left shoulder is shot. We pick and choose how we lift and move things with only two of us half broken. It’s quite a show for sure. Growing pains, I guess…..The Yurt. The Yurt is an interesting structure- almost a breathing living being. It is also very resilient; we live on the top of the hill, and it gets pretty windy here at times. The yurt doesn’t budge against any wind gusts no matter how fierce. Although, when you are inside, you can hear the futile whine of the wind, attempting stubbornly to get in, and the playful dance of the yurt sighing in sync; “Not today, not today….”. And just like a living being it likes attention, and loves when we visit, and take naps. I can feel it, and I like curling into a ball on a couch within, listening to her singing and chatting with the wind. The guinea birds are living in a chicken run full time now until we finish their permanent coop. The coop base is complete. All we have left to build is the walls, roof and floor…. the easiest part. It was rather scary working the roof top holding the wood planks balancing on jiggly wiggly ladder. Now that the skeleton is set, getting it clad seems like a piece of cake. Next steps:-Harvest the pine, debark the trunks and stack them to cure for several months in preparation for building the bathhouse. I just pondered at how we are going to stack those big 800lb sticks, and smiled with a nervous smirk….. ahhh it would be fun to lift those things. People did it by hand 200 years ago, I guess, and we’ll do it, too. Send fairies quick to let me lose my mind before I break in half. One thing I can say that we almost survived our first year (our first winter is on the horizon), a drought and some tough times. As strange as it sounds the drought was a welcoming helping hand. It dried the deep ruts out throughout, making it possible to fixing them without drowning in permanent mud pies. I look forward to the winter. I am sure it will not disappoint and whips us out into shape real quick. Thankfully, we are headstrong and just like our Yurt we sing in unison ‘Lady Nature, you are not going to break us…Not today, not today….’ Update 3/21/23Winter is over and not much to report. Nothing significant at least. We missed the opportunity to harvest timber. The plan is pushed to next fall/winter, and not because we don’t want to do it, but because the tree is drier when it’s dormant, thus easier to cure for building purposes. Besides, we realized that we are not quite ready to accomplish this task just yet. Fun fact: timber is rather heavy, duh. We fell three pine trees and processed them- cleaned off the bark and transported them to our small portable sawmill. The first two small sections of the upper side of the tree we were able to carry on our shoulders. The bottoms- nah. So, we used little round wooden cylinders to roll the tree trunk, like they do with ships. It worked. Then we put together a makeshift log dolly – really a wonky red neck cart made of scrap wood and swivel wheels. That device tops all engineering minds combined!!! Simple, crude and funny looking… Well, this whole experience proved one thing with an utmost certainty- we are strong enough to lift and move short sections of the tree, but not bigger and longer trees. We are not well equipped, both physically and machinery speaking, to do it quite yet, and for now we settle on biting what we can chew. So, let them trees grow a little longer. Here’s a funny story though. Not surprisingly it also involves heavy lifting. Interestingly, everything we attempt either costs too much or weighs too much. Anyway, nobody said there’s anything free- everything has a price, pegged either to a dollar or to body pain. The forthcoming story is about the latter. I found a treasure clove of rocks! They are flat and big, but not too big or too heavy not to carry. The caveat? They are down the steep hill about 300 feet away from where I need them, of course. One such rock can firmly rest on my back, covering approximately a third to a half of my torso. Because the rocks are rather thin, say two inches thick, I can comfortably carry one rock at a time by folding nearly in half balancing the precious sediment with my arms firmly on my spine. Every trip up the hill I keep telling myself that somewhere in NYC there’s a CrossFit gym that charges people crazy membership fees to do similar workout, and I get it free in this neck of woods. I mean, my legs are shaping nicely, I get really winded and pushed to my limit. That’s the upside. But then I compare myself to an old Tibetan monk who looks old, slouchy and withered, carrying provisions to his enclave up the holly mountain, and I wonder, am I going to turn into an old question mark, too, eventually? Time will tell. I do enjoy walking on the path I built using those fabulous rocks, and make sure to step on each and every one of them, like a dance revolution arcade at Chuck E Cheese. On a serious note, I also have a lot of time spent pondering about life, purpose, people and other wormy thoughts that like to gnaw my restless head sometimes. Here are some of my thoughts: – Life by itself appears funny and not so serious when you look back on the past, the future seems scary and uncertain, the present is elusive, ambiguous, and typically underappreciated or exaggerated. – The life is a full spectrum of color with a lot of gray area in between, and these colors also change in time, sometimes drastically becoming polar opposite. The gray is always the shadow that cloaks all colors in a cloud of doubt, or outright deceives. – Dealing with people has been the biggest colorful challenge we’ve had to date. Look at a person from one angle – see a beautiful spark, change an angle and you see a dull mass. Everyone is so lonely. Cooperation among people is hard to come by. People are afraid to ask for help or help others because of the shared pettiness, which is almost always measured in money. Paradoxically, every single dollar says “United we stand, divided we fall”. I came to realize that this statement refers to money itself, and not people. The only thing that unites people is the money/tangible resources. And lack of thereof is where the united part ways. In our case, we offered people to work on their projects in exchange for using a tractor for a few hours or a trailer to bring a sawmill to the property, etc. Somehow, most of those projects end up looking like a street card game “follow the queen”, where the sucker is always me. Here are some notable anecdotes: -One guy agreed to worked together on each other’s projects, but assigned a wage for labor and equipment: I work for him at $15/hr, and he works for me at $20/hr for him and $20/hr for his tractor… -Another guy helped to level the ground for the sawmill. In exchange, he received unlimited use of the mill, two mature oak trees and a cedar tree, and two days of digging trenches for his business project. He offered to transport two ton of my 1 inch gravel to fill a portion of my washed out road. Instead, he used it on his own driveway, bought two inch gravel (which is cheaper than 1”) to replace mine and charged me a delivery fee, which ended up costing four times the amount if I decided to buy the gravel myself directly from the supplier. -How about this one: We invited a family to join us on our land to live and develop it together and share the benefits of our labor. We asked for no money, no resources, just their hands and company. They agreed. Came twice, used a weed wacker, fell three aforementioned pines and never came back. Reason? Video and board games were much more fulfilling things in their life. No joke! There are more stories, all of which are shining examples of mastery in nickel and diming and scam bombing. Nevertheless, we stand firm and united in our family to continue our work. This spring we are planting an orchard of apple, cherry and other fruit trees and a variety of small perennial edible. One step at a time Chuck E, as I’m skipping my dancing arcade rock path.Until next time….
